Boston Comic Con

sounds like: "Paddling Ghost" Dan Deacon

It's been almost a week since we were at Boston Comic Con - and I've been recovering. It's been a month of conventions and non-stop work, so I'm glad I'll finally be able to get some rest this weekend, but let's recap all the fun from last weekend!

I saw Miss Ava and added another drawing to her sketchbook - a mermaid this time (she let me pick what to draw - so of course it's a mermaid :) )

And there were a few portraits to be drawn. Most notably, this one of a mother choking her beloved son. :) More portraits here...

One of my table neighbors was Tofu Squirrel! I've seen her art around in print and on the web quite a bit, so I was really excited when I wandered in to set up Saturday morning and saw her laying out all her art goodies. Just as her art is, she is quite awesome and was so much fun to neighbor with. I took home quite a bit of Tofu Squirrel merch! XD

And this is how packed it got at times during the convention (and stinky)! WHOA!

Org: Intoxication

Org: Intoxication was a grand show! Another amazing assortment of performance artists ranging from music to dance to magic and some film screenings! I drew on larger paper this round and missed a few acts because well, I couldn't stop watching them XD. Really, could you peel your eyes away from a dude walking on broken glass?
Didn't think so.
I sold all my drawings that night save one. That's quite an honor. :) I met fantastic people (I'm meeting so many fantastic, talented individuals lately) and Justin brought me a stack of Jerry Springer TOO HOT FOR TV vhs tapes. I'm psyched to work with those as my soundtrack. XD
Cleaned up photos of all the drawings coming soon...

Org: Intoxication

This Friday I'll be at Oberon doing some live drawing of the performances of Org: Intoxication, organized by Mali Sustri of Jaggery. I've drawn at one other Oberon Org, Org: Asylum, which you can view some of my drawings from here.

Get your tickets now because this show is sure to sell out!

Craftacular & Zine Thing

This weekend was so full of shows. We were at the Bust Craftacular in NYC...

... and the Spring Zine Thing in Somerville.

We are definitely still tired. :)

Bust and Zines!

This Saturday I'll be at the Bust Magazine Spring Craftacular in NYC! We were pretty excited and honored to be considered for this show and doubly excited to return to NYC for craft for the first time since 2009 (We were at NY Anime Festival before it merged with NYComic Con and we haven't been back because our favorite horror convention Rock and Shock is always on the same weekend).

If you find your self in SOHO this Saturday drop by and say hello! It's $3.00 admission to experience 100+ vendors from around the area toting awesome handmade delights and delicious snacks. I hear you also get a goody back upon entrance with a copy of Bust Magazine. We will be stationed at booth #30 which I've marked with a heart on the map below.
But wait! There's more!

After a day in NYC, we'll be back in our home town for Spring Zine Thing! I'll have all my zines and a few other delights for sale and be doing portrait commissions as well. Friends Shaanti Williams of Whut Good?, Cat Craig and my favorite comic group the Trees and Hills will be there too among others! Stop by to get some zines, trade some zines or make some zines!

kristilynink

www.KRISTILYNINK.com is live! This is my sleek, new portfolio site! I still need to make a redirect on my old site, but check this out. :)
Tomorrow I'm sending out my first batch of promo postcards to Zapow! Gallery for an industry mail out they're doing. I'm really excited about it and hope that something cool comes from it. It could take months to a year of mail outs before I catch anyone's eye, but I'm patient. Oh So Patient. ;)

I made this illustration specifically for the card. I realized I didn't have anything I was crazy about that was appropriate for industry. It's one thing to be into painting bloody boobs and a completely different thing to send said bloody boobs to Highlights magazine looking for illustration gigs. Plus this just is perfect for spring I think. You can smell the moisture of the early morning air and the sponginess of the ground. PLUS... no blood and no boobs. XD

Anime Boston '12

Another amazing year at Anime Boston!!! We had so much fun this year and saw so many old and new friends. The ZR booth was next to old art school friends Pheoebe and Dave Bush of Tea Cup Ninja with friends Ange and Joe and all their amazing art, amigurumi and buttons (Celestia the Molestia). On our other side was an amazing group of high school senior girls who were tearing it up with commissions and crafting all weekend.  I asked them if they were all headed to art school and the majority where. They ruled.
Of course I drew LOTS of portraits. I haven't added the final count, but we tallied up that by Saturday night I had drawn 42 portraits with 73 subjects. Intense. Unfortunately, I was so sleeply Sunday I took terrible photos of the majority of the portraits I did. So if you had one drawn and don't see a good photo of it in the gallery - pleasepleaseplease send one my way.
One of the things I love most about drawing portraits is the people who come back repeatedly year after year for them as their con tradition. It's fun to see clients come back time after time and I think about how much fun it must be for them to have followed me over the past years and have a record of drawings of them to show for it. What improvements have I made? How have they grown on the page? It's an amazing record of human interaction that takes presence in the form of art. This year that really sunk in and moved me. It's really special.

Thanks to all who stopped by with kind words and conversation. I really appreciate it with all of my heart. I'm already psyched for next year (but there are still so many great conventions to come for this year)!!!

ANIME BOSTON '12

Hey! It's almost that time again! ANIME BOSTON TIME! My favorite hometown convention! I've been vending at AB since 2009- my first craft/convention/popupshop experience... This is what my very first booth looked like:

It's like the American Gothic of Nerd-dom.
Luckily, we've substantially grown over the years and will be unleashing a ton of new handmade items and prints for convention patrons for this show and future shows. Blake has been working on plush sharks and amanita muscaria mushroom (helloooo Mario !) and I've been pumping out new jewelry designs, handmade kokeshi dolls, buttons, hair pins, zines and art, art and MORE ART! This all in addition to favorites like squid earrings, unicorn skeleton t-shirts and shark necklaces- and so much more! OH, and yes! I will be drawing portraits! :)
We'll be at booth #3 (SWEET SPOT) in the Artist Alley all weekend. Please stop by and say hello! Here's a map of the AA! Click on it to see a full view of who will be there...

MUSTACHE

'nuff said.

Dany

Season 2 of Game of Thrones premiered last night and since I don't have more than 13 channels, I didn't see it. Hopefully, I'll get to see it later this week! Anyway, here is my finished piece of Dany.
